【Title】Limited Efficacy of Autologous Mesenchymal Stromal Cell Injections in Immunomodulatory-Dependent Dogs With Aqueous Deficient Dry Eye Disease
【Journal】Vet Ophthalmol
【Authors】Brian C Leonard; Shin Ae Park; Sun Young Kim; et al.
【Summary】This study evaluated autologous mesenchymal stromal cell (MSC) injections in four dogs with immunomodulatory-dependent aqueous-deficient dry eye disease. MSC injections were well tolerated, but clinical responses were variable and limited, with only one dog showing a sustained 5.5-fold increase in Schirmer tear test I, while repeated injections provided no additional benefit. The findings support further investigation of approaches such as conditioned MSCs or exosome-based therapies.
【Title】Compounded 0.03% Tacrolimus in Cross-Linked Hyaluronate Improves Ocular Surface Health in Dogs With Evaporative Dry Eye Disease
【Journal】Vet Ophthalmol
【Authors】Lionel Sebbag; Eunice Q A Neta; Catharina R de Farias; et al.
【Summary】This prospective study evaluated 0.03% tacrolimus in 0.75% cross-linked hyaluronic acid in 16 dogs with evaporative dry eye disease over 45 days. Schirmer tear test-1 increased from 18.7 to 21.7 mm/min, while tear film breakup time improved from 3.3 to 8.1 seconds, with significant reductions in ocular surface staining and conjunctival hyperemia. The findings suggest that this formulation may improve tear film stability and ocular surface health in canine EDED.
【Title】Objective AS-OCT measurements of tear meniscus parameters following upper eyelid blepharoplasty
【Journal】Int Ophthalmol
【Authors】Ramzi M Alameddine; Noura Wahoud; Hussein Baalbaki; et al.
【Summary】This prospective study evaluated ocular surface and tear meniscus changes after upper eyelid blepharoplasty in 51 patients (102 eyes). Within 10 days after surgery, OSDI, tear meniscus depth, and area increased significantly, while Schirmer testing and AS-TBUT showed no significant changes. Most parameters returned to baseline after 10 days, suggesting that blepharoplasty may cause transient changes in tear volume and ocular surface symptoms without significantly affecting tear production or tear film stability.
