【Title】Species-specific tear proteomic signatures in humans and rabbits: A DIA mass spectrometry comparative study
【Journal】Ocul Surf
【Authors】Sunay Kamalasanan; Saleh Ahmed; Victoria Clifton; et al.
【Summary】This exploratory study compared the tear proteomes of 10 healthy humans and 10 healthy New Zealand White rabbits using liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry and cross-species ortholog mapping. A total of 5,270 human and 3,876 rabbit proteins were detected, with 2,267 orthologous protein pairs identified. Human tears were enriched in proteins related to mucosal immunity and antimicrobial defense, including lysozyme C, lactotransferrin, lipocalin-1, lacritin, and immunoglobulins. Rabbit tears showed greater enrichment of proteins involved in lipid handling, antioxidant defense, and epithelial maintenance. These species-specific profiles may help explain differences in tear film stability and provide candidate proteins for further investigation into mechanisms of tear evaporation control.
【Title】Ocular Safety of Dupilumab Compared With IL-5 Inhibitors in Asthma
【Journal】J Allergy Clin Immunol Pract
【Authors】Hsiao-Mei Tsao; Pei-Lun Wu; Ya-Hui Wang; et al.
【Summary】This retrospective cohort study emulated a target trial using the TriNetX US Collaborative Network to compare ocular adverse events (OAEs) in adults with asthma initiating dupilumab or IL-5 inhibitors. After 1:1 propensity score matching, 7,073 pairs were analyzed over 6 months. Overall OAE incidence was low but higher with dupilumab than IL-5 inhibitors (2.6% vs 2.1%; aHR 1.25, 95% CI 1.01–1.55), driven mainly by conjunctivitis (1.5% vs 1.1%; aHR 1.38, 95% CI 1.03–1.86). No significant difference was observed for dry eye syndrome. The increased risk was more evident among younger adults and men, supporting continued ocular monitoring during dupilumab treatment.
