【Title】Comparing the Efficacy and Tolerability of Two 0.3% Hyaluronic Acid Eye Drop Preparations for Dry Eye Disease: a Randomized Trial
【Journal】Korean J Ophthalmol
【Authors】Jee Hye Lee; Min-Jung Kwon; Youngseo Jeon; et al.
【Summary】This prospective, randomized, double-blinded trial compared the efficacy and tolerability of two 0.3% hyaluronic acid (HA) eye drops, Kynex 3 and Hyalein Mini 0.3%, in patients with dry eye disease. Twenty-three patients with ocular surface staining, TBUT <10 seconds, and dry eye symptoms were followed for 8 weeks. Both formulations significantly improved TBUT and OSDI scores at weeks 4 and 8 compared with baseline. Corneal staining and instillation discomfort also decreased significantly, although these changes did not differ significantly between groups. Neither treatment significantly improved conjunctival staining or Schirmer I values. Overall, both 0.3% HA preparations demonstrated comparable efficacy in improving dry eye symptoms and tear-film stability, with generally good tolerability.
【Title】Comparative Efficacy of Diquafosol, Rebamipide, and Carboxymethylcellulose in Patients with Pre-existing Dry Eye Disease Undergoing Cataract Surgery
【Journal】Korean J Ophthalmol
【Authors】Myung Ho Cho; Jae Hyun Kim; Jong Soo Lee
【Summary】This retrospective study compared the efficacy of 3% diquafosol, 2% rebamipide, and 0.5% carboxymethylcellulose (CMC) in 75 patients with pre-existing dry eye disease (DED) undergoing cataract surgery. Each treatment was administered four times daily from 2 weeks before surgery to 4 weeks afterward, with ocular surface parameters assessed before and 4 weeks after surgery. All evaluated parameters improved significantly in the three groups. Diquafosol produced greater improvements in TBUT and OSDI than CMC and greater TBUT improvement than rebamipide. Rebamipide showed greater improvements in meibomian gland secretion, lid margin telangiectasia, Schirmer test, and OSDI than CMC. The findings support individualized perioperative treatment selection according to ocular surface characteristics.
