【Title】High-Risk Characteristics of Eyelid Basal Cell Carcinoma in Young Patients: A Retrospective Cohort Study
【Journal】Ophthalmol Ther
【Authors】Maxim Bez; Shelly Yacubovich; Orr Zimerman; et al.
【Summary】This retrospective cohort study compared clinical characteristics and outcomes of eyelid basal cell carcinoma (BCC) in 45 patients younger than 40 years and 223 patients aged 40 years or older. Younger patients were more likely to be female, report indoor tanning, and have a genetic syndrome. Their tumors more frequently involved the eyelid margin, had involved initial surgical margins, and required revision stages. Crude local recurrence was significantly higher in younger patients (22.2% vs. 5.8%), as was documented dry eye syndrome (26.7% vs. 4.0%). Although age under 40 was associated with recurrence on unadjusted analysis, this association weakened after adjustment for histological and clinical characteristics, suggesting that age alone does not account for the higher recurrence observed.
【Title】Association between circadian rhythm sleep disorders and dry eye disease: a retrospective cohort study
【Journal】Sci Rep
【Authors】Taher K Eleiwa; J Anthony Chacko; Reem H ElSheikh; et al.
【Summary】This retrospective cohort study evaluated the association between circadian rhythm sleep disorders (CRSD) and subsequent development of dry eye disease (DED) using real-world clinical data from the TriNetX U.S. Collaborative Network. After 1:1 propensity score matching, 19,877 patients with CRSD and 19,877 controls were analyzed. The risk of DED was significantly higher in the CRSD group at 1 year (aHR 2.31), 3 years (aHR 2.12), and 5 years (aHR 2.04). The risk of DED or initiation of DED medication was also increased, with aHRs of 1.36, 1.19, and 1.16 at the corresponding time points. These findings suggest an association between circadian rhythm disruption and ocular surface health, although causality cannot be established because of the observational study design.
